Easter 2016 Network Rail Improvement Work Cardiff and Valleys Network

Saturday 26 March (from 21:00) – Tuesday 29 March 2016 inclusive

How it will affect your journey into and out of Cardiff

Over Easter there will be no train services running between Cardiff Queen St and Cardiff Central stations due to essential modernisation work being undertaken on this part of the line by Network Rail. As a result, there will be some major service amendments on the local Cardiff and Valleys routes for journeys coming in and out of Cardiff which will involve:

  • diversions via different routes
  • reduction in service frequencies
  • services starting and terminating from different stations.
  • rail replacement buses
  • Car park closures at Cogan and Radyr stations and car park restrictions at the rear of Cardiff Central and at Barry station to allow for rail replacement bus services.

Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey and we regret that dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be carried on replacement bus services.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Getting between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen St

There will be no train services between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen St stations. If you are connecting to and from services at Cardiff Central, it is advisable to factor in at least 20 minutes extra to your journey time to walk between stations. Customers who require mobility assistance are advised to book Passenger Assist in advance of travel. Please ask station staff for directions between the two stations.

Check your journey plans before you travel

A general overview of the service amendments is included in this leaflet however there are a few exceptions mainly regarding late night services.

Please note that there are different arrangements for different days so customers are advised to check their journey plans for each day that they plan to travel.

Pontypridd / Radyr customers please use Merthyr / Aberdare / Treherbert services. Caerphilly customers please use Rhymney / Bargoed services.
